Lockdown Sketchbook by Catherine Flood
This is a situation that I never thought that I would ever experience in my lifetime. This is a strange time for everybody, so I decided I would try and capture these strange events, from the public support for the NHS, plus the beauty found in places in our countryside
At the start of self isolation l didn’t feel like painting, so l cleaned out wardrobes and cupboards and got my art room sorted out but on Good Friday , My Husband and l went out on our bikes and he encouraged me to bring my watercolours .
I painted a little sketch in Buckna of all places and it got me going again. I enjoyed doing these wee sketches again as they captured the moment that we are all living through, I miss my visits to Midtown Makers and miss talking to the rest of you
At the start of all this l was anxious, even nervous about getting my once a week big shop in, even though l was going to Marks & Spencer’s between 9,00 and 10.00 am, the hour for the oldies! it was a worry and I didn't know what to expect.
The bike rides really helped , it seemed to ease the tension that hung in the air. It was just lovely to see the spring flowers, as they awoke from their winter slumber and the little lambs, jumping and running around in their fields enjoying the beautiful Spring weather, with it's warming sunshine and the blue skies . For me, like a lot of others, this spring has helped to realise the beauty before us, something that we take for granted and has helped ease us through these awful times, as it helped me and gave me something to look forward to, each morning. Plus getting put on the bike, broke that boredom, that lingered while stuck indoors. I hope you enjoy these sketches, that marks for me 2020.
