Hello, my name is Shelley Steele, I am a wife, mother and new grandmother as well as a textile artist who focuses mainly on wet and needle felting techniques.
I work with some beautiful materials such as hand woven Margilan silk,a wide variety of wool, other silk fabric and a wide range of natural fibres such as soya, nettle, flax and viscose which I often dye myself.
My inspiration comes from the beauty of our world, with it's stunning scenery and beautiful countryside, particularly Northern Ireland and Cumbria, where both places, don't disappoint and are full of excellent array of land, sea and sky vistas. My other source of inspiration is what surrounds me everyday, the natural world of the colourful and assortment of flowers and the birds that visit in my very own garden.
l enjoy the challenge of working with beautiful materials such as silk and versatile yarns to try to make a selection of affordable, but stunning gifts as possible, from my simple brooches to other accessories such as a selection of beautiful scarves and hats
As well I create decorative works of art such a pictures, hangings, vessels, flowers and felted sculptures of birds and animals.
I sell my work in a variety of shops and galleries in Northern Ireland and Cumbria but what I really enjoy is selling direct to the individual.
